In 2A, the Little Brown Jug will finally get a chance to be returned to its rightful owner.  ;D

Not if proposal #2 gets voted in.....................

We're talking western PA here...not a real big desire for change around these parts.  :) I can't see the regional approach with mixed classes happening. The other thing I noticed was why the WPIAL didn't create a mixed section of all Lawrence County, there are enough teams especially if EC (and maybe Riverside to maintain their rivalry) is included.

Given the "familiarity" of Proposal #1, and the lack of explanation and information about Proposal #2, I see the first proposal being overwhelmingly supported. It is hard to blame the WPIAL for handling it in the manner presented. There is a real deadline looming. To get any level of support for Proposal #2, you would need a great deal of information and discussion. Time does not permit that.

The more I look at it..Proposal one is not too bad, except I would rework 3A thusly:
2 sections of 6   and 1 of 8 in trying to stay pretty geographic and familiar opponents.

Ambridge                           Mt.Pleasant              South Park
Central Val                          Smoreland              KO
Hopewell                            Yough                     SAllegh
Avonworth                          Derry                     EF
Quaker Val                          Freeport                 Brownsville
NCatholic                            Valley                     EAllegh
                                         Burrel
                                         Derry

If the team you follow is here, what do you all think about this versus the same classification conferences the WPIAL proposed?

this is pretty much what I proposed..except that I thought that Smore,Yough,Mt. Pleasant fit with the group of Burrel,Deer,Freep, Valley...move EA to be with SA,SP,KO, EF and Browns.

When will there be a conference decision?
Will the WPIAL fill in all of the non-conference games?

Schools vote on proposals due by 12 noon tomorrow.

Football Committee meets Thursday, Jan. 16.

WPIAL Board of Directors meets Monday, Jan. 20.
Alignment will be approved and released then.

League will then finalize schedule grids including non-conference games.

By the way, I have forwarded several of the comments and suggestions listed here on to the League.

I can tell you for certain that BF is voting on the first proposal.  Makes the most sense for them.

Proposal 1 is going to be the OVERWHELMING choice.

To Bobís point a story is out that the status quo was favored by more than 70% of the schools.  Again, canít say the WPIAL didnít try to find an alternative.

I was ok with either proposal and all I hope is they do well with scheduling the non conference games.  I donít need Uniontown going to New Castle (unless we are playing basketball).

About 80 of the 110 votes were cast for Option 1.

However, to call Proposal 1 "Status Quo" is somewhat of a misnomer.

The proposal does maintain six classes, but also attempted to address geography as much as it could.

Class 5A being divided into THREE sections instead of TWO is a direct attempt at dealing with geography.
Class 1A needs a couple minor tweaks to fix a couple geography issues.

Now, the non-conference geography needs dealt with and that's what the committee will attempt to do Thursday.

Having 3 sections allowed P-R to have non-conference games against two big rivals in NA and PCC, as well as get a good crossover game with Gateway. Not sure that would have been possible with only 2 5A conferences. Also, scheduling P-R vs. NA and PCC is a direct attempt to make sure there aren't a ton of blowouts in the inter-class crossovers.

I think all that is good.

So here is a question.  How are they going to decide the non conference game?  You can't always go off of last year results.  For instance, the team I follow Sto-Rox.  We're being moved up to 2A and we lost almost everyone.  The sample schedule they had for us in one game had us playing Central Valley.  We'll get our doors blown off against a team like that.  I'll be honest.  I think we're going to struggle next year.  Probably a .500 team at best?

Will teams submit how their team should be for the next year to try and keep everything competitive?  Will the schools submit a list of schools they are interested in playing or what classifications instead or will they just go off of how teams were last year and maybe a year before (basically the program status).    I'm really curious how they go about figuring out who should play who.

I've heard teams can submit teams they would be interested in playing and I'm sure they will look into geography and what they think would be competitive.  Anything is better than random or match teams up alphabetically for cross over games.

For Uniontown, I would be ok with games vs Brownsville, Yough, Derry, Mt Pleasant, Connellsville, Southmoreland, etc.
