Of course, in a full 16-team bracket, 3 or 6 are almost the same thing.

This is not a bad draw for BF, away from all the other section 1 teams and North Catholic is on the top of the bracket. Maybe a little bit of a reward for playing a tough non-conference schedule.

FWIW, 1 3A teams seeded 1, 5, 6 and 9.

Round 2
1 LP
9 Neshannock

5 Aliquippa
4/13 SLS/McGuffey winner

2 NC
10 Carlynton

3 SA
6 BF

If you are keeping track, 1-3A advanced all 4 teams, 2-3A advanced 3 teams, 3-3A advanced 1 team, 4-3A all teams lost.

I want to start by repeating what I said earlier in this thread:  Washington was NOT that good, and they were, often times, way over-rated, finally by the P-G's listing of them as the #3 seed.  But they were NOT the #8 and should NOT have been seeded #8 by the Basketball Committee. Now, having said that:

There are a couple notes about the seeding that I found last night.

At Tuesday's Pairings meeting, Washington was not included in the Section Champions announcement.
When questioned, the WHS coaches were told they didn't win the section.
Upon explanation, the WPIAL personnel then understood that they did--sharing the title with Charleroi.
So, 30 hours AFTER the WPIAL committee sets the brackets, the League figures out that they weren't operating with correct info...
PITIFUL.

Then, Friday night, Neshannock shot 22 free throws, Washington 4.  In a game that resembled a football matchup at times, this numerical discrepancy is inconceivable.
Again, PITIFUL.

And, one final note, Coach Faust did not coach the game last night. His mother passed away this morning.

That is sad to learn of Faust's mom's passing. That is never easy no matter how prepared for it you might believe you are.

I was at the BF-S'moreland game. Conforti was 17 of 19 on FTs. He shot more FTs than SM made baskets (16). In the second half, SM ended with 4 total team fouls as opposed to BF being in the double bonus. Of SM's 59 pts, 24 came on FTs. There were a few instances when BF was called for a foul where on similar plays, SM got no foul called on them. Apparently we weren't the only game where the officiating was kind of lopsided.

Aliquippa vs Seton is always a fun playoff match up. Looking forward to that one.

Aliquippa is truly not a good shooting team, neither from the field or from the FT line. They are fast and will hound you on defense, though, and get points of turnovers.

They were able to beat Steel Valley because they only had to worry about stopping Polack, who fouled out in the 3rd qtr anyway, and still only won by 6 or 7. SLS' losses to NC and StoRox lead me to think maybe they have some trouble with teams that play up tempo like Aliquippa.

Really surprised  #1 LP vs Neshannock is at New Castle. Neshannock playing at NC is like BF playing at Geneva.

Laurel/SSB girls is the first game at NC, but still a pretty long ride up for LP.

OLSH/Ellis School precedes BF/SA game at West A.

Vincentian/Giebel boys precedes Aliquippa/SLS at Peters Twp.

N Cath vs QV girls play before the N Cath/Carlynton game at NA.
