Looking for AVONWORTH sponsors
« on: December 01, 2019, 12:03:25 PM »

Guys, TribHSSN is NOT doing any in-house (network generated) broadcasts of the PIAA Football Finals....

WJPA-FM (95.3) is broadcasting the 4A Thomas Jefferson-Dallas game on Thursday.
WBVP and The Pickle will be doing the 3A Central Valley-Wyoming Area game on Saturday.
Both of those broadcasts will be streamed by TribHSSN as they carry all of the affiliate broadcasts.

So, since I'm going to be in Hershey Thursday night, if I can pull together enough sponsorship to cover the hotel stay, the phone line stuff and the PIAA fee, I'm going to stay and do the Avonworth - Southern Columbia game on WJPA-AM (1450) and stream it on TribHSSN.  I figure the Avonworth folks are used to listening only online since not many of their games get on-air coverage.  They'll be able to listen the same way they usually do.

But I gotta find $1,200 to $1,400 to make it make sense with those expenses I listed.

Avonworth community isn't one I know very well so I need sponsor suggestions, preferably with contact names.
BIG BOX stores & chains aren't usually very good with these things.  It's the Mom & Pop places, the LOCAL retailers, the doctors/lawyers/chiropractors, etc.

Any suggestions/connections would be appreciated.

And, of course, I gotta get this nailed down quickly since I have to tell PIAA by mid-day TUESDAY.

Well, Avonworth and Emsworth are supposedly two of the most affluent areas in Allegheny County, they may want to pony up some bucks.  Lot of business around the Bellevue, Sewickly . Quaker Valley areas. This being their first ever trip to states, some local business might be more apt to sponsor them. I don't have a specific names of business, however.
Hey, maybe Downriver could let you crash on his sofa.  :)

All the way up to Glenfield, Aleppo, and Osborne  is Quaker Valley SD on rt, 65. Pretty sure that Kilbuck, Emsworth, and Ohio Twp are Avonworth

Bob if you just need names of businesses in the district to call.

Cafe Notta - rt65 next to the old Avonworth Antelopes  football field
House of Lee Chinese Restaurant - 65& Camp Horne Road
BP/7-11-rt 65 & camp horne
Custard's First Stand(ice cream)- camp horne

Those are the ones I've used before. I'll try to note a few more on my drive to and from work tonight. There is a little car lot I think in Ohio Twp. The frozen custard joint might be closed for the season but may be worth a call, they seem to support the community

Not many businesses on 65 in Avonworth's patch of it , Kilbuck used to be famous for how many speeding tickets they gave out, that's how they made money.

Found this from 2004, the cops have definitely calmed down in last ten to fifteen years on pulling over people. Kind of surprising because they never got their wal-mart because the ground was unsuitable for construction .

5000 tickets is like almost 14 per day

It's a small world, guys, and that's a good thing.

I posted a  note on Facebook the other day.
A friend of mine in the Peters Township area graduated from Northgate and has a friend who is an assistant coach at Avonworth, so he forwarded my message.
That assistant coach is friends with an Avonworth resident who works at a company that I do some business/work with on a non-profit venture. The assistant forwarded my message.
When the guy saw it, he said, "I know Bob. I'll call him, find out what's needed and see what we can do."

And, they've done that.

WJPA-AM (1450) IS going to be able to broadcast the Avonworth / Southern Columbia game Friday.
The game WILL be available online, as usual, on our website at wjpa.com/sports and via TribHSSN.triblive.com

I am still reaching out to some folks that I've been given in that neighborhood and getting some good response.

Looking forward to calling Thomas Jefferson / Dallas for the 4A title Thursday night AND Avonworth / Southern Columbia for the 2A title Friday afternoon.

Wow..so many of us just take these broadcasts for granted..like they just happen every Friday/Saturday.  It is good to be reminded how much hard work goes into getting a team on the air. I congratulate you and all the other stations around the area that give a voice to their team and communities and bust your hump doing it.
I think it is important that when we hear the name of a sponsor on the broadcast that we make an effort to support that business (ahhh..maybe not the funeral homes) and let them know you heard about them on WJPA or which ever station is doing the broadcasts all year.  I doubt that I will get a chance to do that with any business from the Avonworth area, but maybe drop them a note of appreciation so they might continue to sponsor their school on the air in the future.

coach99, you have no idea how helpful things like that are...

Sponsors (most) don't expect a HUGE influx of new customers, but they GREATLY appreciate hearing from people who heard their message and took the time to say "thanks."

Maybe at some point when you have time you could post a list of the sponsors so some of us here can send along a note.  TJ as well and maybe some of your Washington clients.

Bob-

I know Sunny Jim's (on Camp Horne Rd) is always quick to help Avonworth...definitely worth a call there!

Also, new restaurant/deli on Mt. Nebo Rd. called Goodfellas would be a good contact as well.

wpialbb, thanks.  Those were two of the first ones on my list.  Waiting to hear back from them.
I know that both support the boosters and that's important too.

Thanks a lot Bob. I will be sure to mention something to some of these sponsors I encounter.

But most importantly thanks to you for doing this for selfish reasons. Iíve got something to listen to on my computer at work on Friday!
