Mid Atlantic Invitational Tournament
« on: November 30, 2019, 12:18:36 AM »

@ Maria Goretti H. S. Hagerstown Md.

37th annual

Game 1  St. Andrew's (Potomac Md.) vs. McDonogh (Md.)

1Q S. A. 24 - 15

2Q S. A. 35 - 23

3Q S. A. 47 - 30

final Saint Andrew's 61 McDonogh 44

McDonogh #10 - 17 & #44 with 11, 4-3's and 6 of 10 FT

St. Andrew's #3 - 17, #10 - 13 & #5 with 10, 3-3's & 7 of 16 FT

McDonogh better get those two players in street clothes back soon or it's going to be a tough season. Saint Andrew's much better inside.

Game 2

Maria Goretti - South Lakes Christian (N. C.)

1Q Goretti 18 - 13

2Q Goretti 40 - 26

3Q Goretti 59 - 37

final Maria Goretti 72 South Lakes 55

Goretti #10 - 18, #15 - 16, #4 - 12 & #23 with 11, 11 - 3's & 7 of 12 FT

South Lakes #2 - 16 & #11 with 11, 6-3's & 17 of 28 FT

So how does a team from Huntersville N. C. (suburban Charlotte) end up in Hagerstown Md. The answer is as simple as connections. South Lakes is Coached by the best player Goretti ever produced, Rodney Monroe.

Goretti won three straight Baltimore Catholic League titles from 86-88 with him as a player. He was the national player of the year in '88 (I saw the plaque). Went onto N.C. State where he broke David Thompson's scoring records. Was ACC player of the year in 1991. Drafted into the NBA by the Hawks, he lasted only a year. Had a good career playing overseas. He still looks like he could play.
