2019 Scottish Open and 2019 British Open
« on: July 11, 2019, 08:50:20 AM »

My fav consecutive weeks of golf all year.  Absolutely love watching true links golf.  Nothing really like it at all on PGA Tour.  And even though The Golf Channel broadcasts the European PGA every Thur-Sun early in the mornings, these are really the only true links courses they play anymore.  Most of their schedule is now revolved around resorts and destination courses much like our PGA.

Live coverage of the Scottish Open is from 5:30 AM until 1:30 PM each of the next four days.  Coverage of next week's British Open will be even more extensive.

And we actually got an added treat last weekend by the Irish Open using a links course this year to kick off three straight weeks of links golf on TV.

I seem to remember when driving to D.C that along the highway somewhere in Maryland there was a links type course that you could see with all the tall grasses and mounds, etc. Looked like a copy of one of the courses across the pond.  Darn, can't think of the name of the town there.

Tiger, Phil, Rory and Adam Scott all lay massive eggs in first round of British Open.  American JB Holmes leads at -5.  There are 19 more players between -4 and -2. Tomorrow should be interesting. Plus theres always somebody who comes storming out of the pack on Friday or Saturday.  Weather always a factor too.

Tiger was expected.  Since winning the Masters this is only his 4th Tournament.  He has played since the US Open.

Rory is the shocker as this is his home country and he is one of the few players that know this course.  He has the course record of 61 and shot that when he was 16. Crazy to see him struggle.

Everybody who thought Tiger is back - He's not!

Glad to see Koepka right up there close to the lead.

Since last August, not quite one year, he's played 11 events and won a major, won a big FedEx Championship event, and had seven total Top 25 finishes, three in Top 10.

Friday update:

Fleetwood, Holmes, Westwood, Rose, Smith, Koepka and Harding take advantage of playing in early morning today and post great rounds to crowd the leaderboard.

Friday afternoon golfers (Rory, Molinari, Fowler, Casey, DeChambeau) and guys on their back nine or still on course now (Tiger, Lowry, Rahm, Stenson, Sergio, Noren) are screwed.  Weather is awful and getting worse.  In other words, great British Open viewing on television!

And just like that, the storm veered away from the course a bit.  Afternoon guys scoring as good as the morning guys.  Rory out of his mind right now, and making a run to make the cut.

As mentioned Tiger won The Tour Championship when people said he would never win a tournament again.  The goal posts where raised when they said he would never win a major again and then The Masters happened.  Tiger has basically taken a victory lap since The Masters as at his age and health, he has no real chance at contending when he is staying at home every weekend and only playing The Majors.  He is already saying he can't wait to get home and rest as the playoffs start soon and he will have to play a few weeks in a row.  This year based off The Masters alone is a success and I think he will always have a chance to win there.  I think the US Open is probably going to always be out of his reach as the field is too deep and the courses there change, so he needs one that fits his current game.  The Masters is a course that requires experience and I think The Open is one he can compete in as that one tends to skew older than the other 3 majors.  That's just what happens with Links golf as it brings everyone back in play.

Shane Lowry shoots a 63 today and is at -16 to take a 4 shot lead over Tommy Fleetwood into the final round tomorrow. JB Holmes is in third at -10 and Koepka and Rose are in 4th place at -9

Lowry was out of his mind today.  15-19 MPH winds tomorrow with gusts up to 35 MPH.  And rain.  Should be interesting.  Live coverage on Golf Channel at 2:30 AM and on NBC at 6:00 AM.

Top 12 tee off tomorrow between 8 & 9 AM, so I don't have to get up super early to catch it all!  Could get wild with the weather conditions.
