Virginia 30
Pitt 14
Final

Tough start to the year as they are a game back in the Coastal with a home loss.

Very disappointing season opener for Pitt. I know its only the first game but seems like Narduzzi is just standing in quicksand with this program and not making any progress

Narduzzi is a carnival barker. He will tell you how good he is and all that but there isnít much substance to him. That said I think heís assembled decent talent and think theyíll go 7-5. Thought this was a loss anyways. UCD, Penn State and two other ACC games.

I was there.  Offense was dreadful.  OL can't block.  QB can't throw.

Seemed the Pitt QB had no confidence in his line as he was scrambling around and never getting set to make accurate throws.

Sluggish start for Pitt as they kicked off at 11 AM on the ACC Network.  Thankfully they have come to life in the second quarter and lead Ohio 17-0.

I love the ACC Network by the way as itís great getting all the Pitt games even if they have to kick off an hour earlier than normal.

I wish Comcast would carry it!

I think Penn State is 35-42 points better than Pitt. This game could be ugly.

I think Pitt has narrowed the gap with PSU.  I watched PSU last night, and they have nobody close to McSorley, Sanders, Barkley.  The TE, #87, is very good.  Looks like an NFL player.

As for Pitt, our section was really empty yesterday.  I kind of hated the 11 AM start.  I think Pitt definitely is improved, especially on D.  They will shut down PSU a bit.

Not to look ahead, but UCF is having all sorts of QB problems.  Now Brandon Winbush is hurt.  UCF is starting their 3rd string QB now.

Pitt D is improved.  Penn State O is nowhere near the team that scored a combined 120+ points on Pitt the past few years.  They are playing 3-4 frosh/soph RBs that are still inexperienced.  PSU starts 8 frosh/soph on offense.

Where PSU does scare me is at DE and OLB.  They are quick and capable of slowing down Pickett when he rolls out.  Which is bad, because if Pickett has to become a pocket passer all night, he will get sacked many times.

If Pitt had a QB this game would be close honestly, but as is I see this game being along the lines of 35-0 or 42-7.

With all of that said win or lose I want to see Pitt play for 60 minutes. Franklin suddenly likes running up the score and you know that he'll take his shot at that against Pitt if he can. Pitt has a nice opportunity for a dignity game of sorts.

A Pitt win would be great but I am just hoping for a good, competitive game

I really don't see a 35+ point difference, but maybe It's just me being unfamiliar with PSU.  They just lost so much from the last two years.  And they are starting all those young kids, including the QB.  Maybe I'm crazy expecting a lower final score and Pitt covering the 17 points?

I have seen most of both teams first two games. I think Pitt will struggle to move the ball with any consistency and the defense will wear down in the second half. Franklin also has a pension for running it up so thatís partially why I think it will get out of hand.

I hope Iím wrong. Iím not a fan of either but do support local kids and certainly donít root against either.

That's kind of where I'm at. Penn State, while young and inexperienced, still has a ton of talent on their front 7, so loading the box against Pitt's rushing attack will be an easy game plan. Pickett still appears to be a bottom 15 or 20 starting QB in the entire nation. I can't see Pitt scoring more than two touchdowns max. Anything more would probably mean a terrible defensive game plan by Penn State.

The shame is that with a competent QB I think that Pitt goes toe to toe with PSU in this one.
