Pens up 2-0 after one period. Butt they are giving up way too many chances and shots. Penguins got to tighten this up

Florida gets a power play but the Penguins are able to get a short handed goal to make it 3-0 Pens

Hornqvist has not returned to the game after taking a puck to the face late in the first period

Sheahan gets another short handed goal to give the Pens a 4-0 lead

Florida scores a power play goal right after but the Pens are challenging for offsides

No Goal! Play was offsides. Pens up 4-0

Florida scores but the Penguins are challenging again on goaltending interference. Iíd be surprised if this one is overturned

Itís a goal. Pens lose their timeout. Still up 4-1 after two periods but a very sloppy game being played tonight

Crosby scores his 20th goal of the season and second point tonight as the Penguins lead 5-1. Not sure what Ovechkin is doing tonight but those two points might put Crosby ahead in points for their careers

Pens played a sloppy game today but Murray stood his ground and made some good saves tonight to secure a win for the Penguins 5-1. The only goal to get past Murray was when he was banged in the head by a Panther. Only downside was Hornqvist and ZAR left with injuries and we will have to wait and see how they are. Pens are now go on a 5 game road trip and one of those games will be in Vegas which I will be there to see!

Hornqvist was diagnosed with another concussion today. he was hit in the face on Tuesday with a puck in the first period and never returned to the game.

ZAR was also put on IR with a lower body injury and Sullivan stated he will be out for a significant amount of time. Wilson was called up to take his place

https://triblive.com/sports/penguins/14489725-74/penguins-reaping-rewards-of-trade-for-marcus-pettersson

Good read on the impact of the Sprong for Petterson trade.

I do not always believe that there are direct correlations between a trade and win losses because many other pieces are involved as well as opponents, luck, etc, but one of the things that Bombulie points out if Jack Johnson's play since the trade as well.

So far a win for both sides.

Pens win 7-4 in Anaheim after getting down 3-0 in the first.  Guentzel gets a hat trick while Pearson and Kessel each score 2 goals.  Nice win!

Only could stay awake until it was 2-0 Ana and saw Gibson make a series of unbelievable saves. I'm pretty surprised Pens were able to get 7 pucks past him.

I am surprised also that they got 6 goals past their goalie the way he was playing early. After Murray gave up that third goal early to Sprong, I also went to bed and was surprised to see the Pens won 7-4. Also surprised to see Crosby only got one assist and that was on the empty net goal. They didnít play their best but glad to see the Pens get the win.

DeSmith was also rewarded with a three year contract extension with 1.25 million per year

Also saw that Letang made the All Star Team

A little surprised DeSmith signed rather than become a UFA. Teams are always in search of competent goalies and I'd bet that DeSmith would have gotten that or better from another team. Griess initially signed for 1.5 and is now making 3.3M/yr. Condon just re-signed in Ott for 2.4M/yr and even Zatkoff re-signed for 1.5M.

I guess Rutherford is hedging his bets what with Murray's contract being up after next season. I can't honestly see the Pens carrying a back up goalie at over 1M/yr, but signing DeSmith may make him easier to trade. I really expect to see Rutherford do a fairly big deal at or before the trade deadline involving Brassard, a d-man (Oleksiak?) and/or a goalie. Hornqvist has just suffered his second concussion in about a month and there's no telling when that might start affecting his long-term career given the way he plays. I don't think they can go into the playoffs with natural centers like Sheahan and Grant or marginal NHL'er Garrett Wilson at wing.

Pens lose 5-2 in LA.

I did not see the game only the box score...Pens outshot LA 40-25 not sure if DeSmith struggled or what happened. Seems like another city that they traditionally struggle in but I do not have data in front of me to support that. The only notable good news is that Guentzel scored two more goals in the loss.
