Wonder how the rest of the field feels about Reading possibly playing a home game for the District 3 final.

What happened to move the games from the Giant Center?

Lower Dauphin, Hershey and Middletown use Hershey Stadium extensively and no one has ever griped about them having home field advantage for District or state playoff games.  Honestly, I don't think it's a huge deal.

I'm beginning to feel like the village idiot but I can't find anything about this.  Is there a link with the playoff sites?

Reading fans travel well , as we all know , so it doesn't really matter where they play.  Ironically , the Knights never seem to shoot well  at  the Santander.  No matter  who  plays in those 3 finals , fans of those teams should be prepared to pay to park , unlike free parking at the Giant Center.

Santander Arena to host District 3 basketball championship tripleheader
Boys Class 6A, girls Class 5A and 6A games to be played in Reading on March 1.
 Written by Mike Drago
District 3 has scheduled a championship tripleheader at Santander Arena, including the boys Class 6A game, it was announced Wednesday.

The girls Class 5A and 6A championship games will also be played at the Reading venue on Friday, March 1, according to District 3 basketball chairman Dave Bitting.

The other nine boys and girls championship games will be played at Giant Center on Feb. 26, 27 and 28.

The Santander tripleheader will start at 4:30 with the 5A girls, followed by the 6A girls at 6:15 and the 6A boys at 8.

Bitting said the games were moved to Reading because Giant Center is not available March 1; a concert has been scheduled by Hershey Entertainment.

The same scenario occurred last year. District 3 altered its schedule at that time and no games were played on Friday of championship week.

A rift emerged between District 3 and Hershey Entertainment, which manages Giant Center, when the district's traditional weeklong series of semifinal and championship games was interrupted.

District 3 officials indicated at that time they would look to place championships at other venues.
This year, for the first time in its 36-year tournament history, District 3 did not play any football championship games at Hersheypark Stadium, which is also managed by Hershey Entertainment.
Bitting said only championship games will be played at Giant Center. In the past, semifinal and quarterfinal games also were played there.
This season, all rounds prior to the championships will be played on the home court of the higher-seeded team.
Santander is the site for the Berks boys and girls championship games. It hosted PIAA playoff games in 2017, as well as Lonnie Walker IV's homecoming game between Miami and La Salle.

“We are very excited to showcase the Santander Arena and the City of Reading to our neighbors in surrounding counties,” said Mark Wallace, general manager of Santander Arena. “This is one of District 3's premier championship events, and we are looking forward to this opportunity.”
Bitting called Santander, which seats 7,000 for basketball, a “spectacular venue.”
"We're excited to see how it goes (in Reading)," Bitting said. "We've always had good crowds (at Hershey) but I'm curious to see how this plays out. Reading has a rabid basketball culture, and this is the marquee night (of the tournament)."
Traditionally, District 3's big-school championship game has been played on a Saturday afternoon.
Reading High has won two of the last three district championships in District 3's largest classification, now 6A.
2 to 3 bucks to park most likely as long as the parking authority isn't starved for cash !

This is very disappointing for those of us who go to the Giant Center each year to see multiple games throughout the D3 playoffs.

I agree.  I loved hitting the Giant Center for those long days with a bunch of games.  Unfortunately, just like football, Hershey has put money before community and the district has no choice.  Given the income of Hershey, taking a little hit for the local schools and fans should be one of their priorities.

back in the long ago 4 class days we had that Saturday morning 4A triple header with the 4-5 game being played somewhere else. The Friday night before there was the boys 3A triple header.

With the advent of 6 classes we lost alot of that. I was at the Giant Center 8 of those 9 days missing only Sunday.

That being said, basketball wise, playing all the games up to the finals at the higher seed seems to me to be the right course. Just going to have to get where you're going early.

Like most things, the PIAA is being forced into it despite all the press releases they conjour up. Blah! Blah! Blah!
