2018 BF Tigers Football
« on: August 02, 2018, 07:01:46 PM »

Haven't been to a practice, but was told there are 44 kids out for the team this year which is a nice turnout all things considered.

Tigers will have a number of seniors and hopefully the OL and DL will be improved with last year's juniors and sophs being another year older.

BF will be playing at South Park for the opening of their new football stadium. SP will be holding some special ceremonies to dedicate the field.  Visiting teams that have played at SP over the years will be happy to find new locker rooms to replace the old equipment garage and port o let that served the visitors. Also, the old practice field has been paved over for parking close to the entrace gate on  field level. New seating (still on one side), track and turf field. Parking available on the site of the old demolished high school above the field..with a bit of a walk down the hill to the stands. There is a new refreshment stand and restrooms, replacing the old team locker room. I am not quite sure of where any handicapped parking or access is located. Even parking at field level you have to go up to stands..or at top of hill..you have to go down. A bit of a distance at any rate. Maybe you should call the school AD and ask about it if you need handicap area.
At any rate, it is a beautiful setting overlooking the South Park Oval and old fairgrounds.
The South Park Clubhouse is located right below the school and Gil's just a bit up Brownsville Rd. Both have good food.

Over/Under for BF fans will be 200 for that game.  Between traveling there and Waynesburg as well as Uniontown, not many fans that aren't related to the players or band members will be making those trips, including yours truly.

I agree that most of the conferences have really bad travel for a league game. With people losing interest in football more and more, this loss of close rivals with familiar schools just kills it more.  Booster groups need visitors to attend games and not have to rely only on the home fans for monetary support.

Huge difference in scheduling between the WPIAL and Conferences in D3.  Middletown, who plays in the Mid Penn will probably have crowds of 15,000 plus because 3 of their first 5 games are against huge rivals.  Game 1 will be in Hershey Stadium against next door neighbor Lower Dauphin in the annual Iron Spike Bowl.  Week 3 Bishop McDevitt another huge rival rolls into Memorial Stadium week 3 and week 5 Middletown travels to Cottage Hill to face their neighbor on the other side in Steel-High, a team they've been playing since 1894!   Now that's how schedules should work.  Also, the Mid Penn does not separate teams by class.  Steel-High is AA, Middletown AAA, Bishop McDevitt AAAA and Lower Dauphin AAAAA.  Good teams play good teams regardless of class!

Again, WPIAL screwed these teams over with travel to please CWNC and their AD.  No excuse for Waynesburg to be with the Beaver County teams.  CWNC didnít want to be there and have to battle for a playoff spot so this is what we got.

Cardinal Wuerl ought to be dropping the "Cardinal Wuerl" anytime now and go back to just North Catholic...

Stopped over at NB to check out the BF/NB scrimmage. Neither varsity could score on their 10 play sequences or when the sticks were brought out. The BF JVs/2nd team managed to score late in the srimmage. There were a few fumbles, but the grass was wet and the miscues happened at the swampy end of the field.

BF has some decent size on the lines. They seem somewhat improved from last year. Vaughan was at qb and mlb. Hough looks like he might be used as an H-back type. He's pretty big and threw some nice blocks when at TE on offense. Cottrill played RB and FS. BF had an overall size advantage and should have scored 1 or 2 TDs, but Hough fumbled near the goal line to end the first 10 play series. BF has some skill, but it will all come down to OL play.

NB burned BF's defense for some big pass plays. Anderson was targeted a lot. He's pretty fast and can run with receivers, but he has 0 sense of where the ball is at any given time. BF pretty much stuffed all of NB's running plays. Brickner and Cottrill give BF 2 good DBs, but they probably need to find a better 3rd DB.

This is a team that looks like it might improve as the season progressed, but 5 wins is probably their ceiling. I don't see them beating either Aliquippa or Center, tbh.

Very disappointed to hear NB refused to play us this year in Week Zero. They have possession of the Jug so why play anymore? Pathetic.

Would have been a great way to open the season.

The scrimmage was real chippy, lots of extracurricular stuff after the whistle and the play was over. The refs finally called both teams to the middle of the field and told them in no uncertain terms to knock it off. After that, it was just football.

I'm not surprised to hear that at all. Nardone, staff and team was not happy that NB wanted a scrimmage over a real game. Carbone told me he expected it to get chippy.  Makes no sense to me. We may win 7 games IF everything falls right for us. It's not like we are championship material. Speaks volumes about that program and who's in charge.
