2018 World Cup
« on: June 14, 2018, 01:59:52 PM »

Russia opened up the 2018 World Cup with a win today.  Schedule starts in full tomorrow.

Who you rooting for?

With no USA or Italy, I was thinking of jumping on a favorable bandwagon, but I decided on Croatia because the Croatian coast is directly across the Adriadic Sea from the area of Italy my family is from.

Scores from today:

Uruguay 1
Egypt 0

Uruguay scores a late goal to win.

Iran 1
Morocco 0

Apparently the difference was a Morocco defender put one in his own goal.

Spain 3
Portugal 3

Spain tied after firing their coach on Wednesday. Ronaldo had all 3 Portugal goals.

highlights of past few days:

Harry Kane scored a dramatic goal in extra time to lift England over Tunisia.

Russia scored an onslaught of 3 goals within a few minutes to beat Egypt.

Senegal got a somewhat controversial call to go their way during a player substation to beat Poland.

Mexico pulled a huge 1-0 upset over Germany.

Switzerland scored a 2nd half goal to pull a surprising tie with Brazil, 1-1.

Ronaldo has all 4 goals for Portigal in their two games thus far.

France beats Croatia for 2018 World Cup title.  Belguim beat England in the third place game.  Was a really fun and exciting tournament to watch.

2022 World Cup will be held in Qatar during the months of November and December.  All sorts of controversies and situations surround Qatar hosting the Cup.
