Pitt lost to Florida State 5-4 today.  Pitt was winning in bottom of 7, but Fla State player his a homerun with two girls on base to give the walk off victory and end Pitt's season.  Hopefully, Pitt might get an invitation to the NCAA.  The conference champ got the automatic bid.

The Panthers got a walk-off grand slam to beat Va Tech in Thursday's quarterfinals, 6-4.
This afternoon, that was very painful to see come back around and beat Pitt.
The FlaState player that hit the game-winner was their catcher who had a miserable inning that allowed Pitt to build the 4-0 lead.

Some folks around the Pitt team posted complaints about a tight strike zone, particularly late, but I did not see much of a difference from early to late in the game.
It would have been Pitt's first-ever ACC tournament title in any sport.
Sadly, with a 48 RPI, the Panthers will not sleep comfortably tonight, hoping that they'll get a bid to the NCAA tourney for just the second time ever, the last coming in 2015.

Great to see so many local kids choose to play at Pitt and lead them to some prominence.
Here's hoping the Pnathers' showing against Fla State this year will be enough to get one of the 32 at-large bids.

As feared, Pitt did not receive an NCAA invitation.  It would have been a nice reward for a great season.  I am sure the NCAA wanted to make sure they got all the SEC and PAC 12 teams in the toruney.  It is nice to see some other teams other than the usual ones each year.

Well, the NCAA softball championships have started with ESPN giving a lot of coverage around the various regionals. I you like softball, this is a good a time of the year as for the basketball fans.  The touney ends with the Womens College World Series in a week or so after the regionals and super regionals are decided.  It will probably be the usual teams like Florida, Arizona, Oregon, Oklahoma....or some other big name school.  But it is fun to see the 'little guys' playing in the early regional games.

I love watching college softball.  It's a great game.

But, the Haves & HaveNots are nowhere more clearly separated than here.
The 16 teams heading to the Super Regionals this weekend are the top 16 seeds in the brackets, ie the host schools of the regional tournaments.

That being said, I watched HOURS of tournament action in the regionals, will in the Supers and the WCWS.

NINE of the 16 teams are from the SEC...
FIVE from the PAC-12
One from Big 12
One from the ACC

1 Oregon vs. 16 Kentucky
8 Arizona State vs. 9 South Carolina
4 Oklahoma vs. 13 Arkansas
5 Washington vs. 12 Alabama

2 Florida vs. 15 Texas A&M
7 Georgia vs. 10 Tennessee
3 UCLA vs. 14 Arizona
6 Florida State vs. 11 LSU

The Oregon coach has resigned and taken the HC job at Texas, trading in his ugly green uniforms for the burnt orange of Texas.  Hook 'em.
