Gavin Teasdale goes for 4th PIAA Wrestling Title
« on: March 07, 2018, 12:27:56 PM »

Entering this year's tournament, there are 58 wrestlers who have won three PIAA individual championships. Only a dozen of those have won four. Jefferson-Morgan's Gavin Teasdale will change that number to 13 if he can win four straight matches at the Giant Center this weekend. If successful, Teasdale and JM alum Cary Kolat would become the first duo from a single school to accomplish the feat.

Trivia challenge:  Two of the five WPIAL wrestlers on this list of four-time PIAA champions are not on the WPIAL 4x list.  Name them.

PIAA Wrestling Four-Time Champions
1. James Conklin, Waynesburg (1940-1943)
2. Jerry Maury, Clearfield (1947-1950)
3. Mike Johnson, Lock Haven (1958-1961)
4. Matt Gerhard, Catasaqua (1981-1984)
5. Ty Moore, North Allegheny (1987-1990)
6. John Hughes, Benton (1988-1991)
7. Cary Kolat, Jefferson-Morgan (1989-1992)
8. Bob Crawford, Milton (1990-1993)
9. Jeremy Hunter, McGuffey (1993-1996)
10. Jimmy Gulibon, Derry Area (2009-2012)
11. Chance Marstellar, Kennard Dale (2011-2014)
12. Thomas Haines, Solanco (2011-2014)

Great job!  You only have to look at those 58 three time winners and how good they were to realize how tough it is to do it 4 times.  It only takes one mistake.  Just ask Spencer Lee!!
