Term LIMITS FOR WPIAL EXECUTIVES?
« on: February 12, 2018, 01:15:46 PM »

There needs to be term limits for WPIAL executives. Through the many years all past WPIAL executives THEY have become lazy, never taking the time to consider new ideas. Waiting for executives to retire or die doesn't accomplish much of anything in our lifetimes. Instead of just talking about things like this, the school principals and athletic directors need to start the process of starting WPIAL term limits NOW. What do you think>

District 3 has either 1 or 2 year terms which are essentially elected by member schools.  Also, keep in mind D3 does not control leagues, scheduling, etc.  That is up to the individual schools to decide which of the 6 leagues they want to join or even start a new league.  The executive committee is comprised of the 6 Executive Directors from the leagues.  Those folks are elected by their respective league membership.  Below is a link to the D3 policy manual.  Section 1 essentially shows how the schools control everything.  This operation completely takes the "old boy" network out of play as the schools totally control the district.

I don't recall Superintendent's holding so many seats in the past.  It should be no more than a 2 years term.  Some of these individuals have been there forever.  O'Malley is collecting a pension from PSERS on top of his WPIAL salary.  This is a fraternity just like Harrisbug and Wash. DC.

Yo also have people retired for over a decade serving on steering committees.

Well said Panthers 76.  We're in 2018 and the WPIAL looks at everything through 1960's and 1970's lenses. No forward movement, EVER!!! The Wizard used to say it best!!!

I've asked several times about the "adjunct" members of committees, the retirees who stay on steering committees.

The answer has always been that the overwhelming majority of Athletic Directors and Principals do not want to volunteer time to serve on the "lesser" steering committees and work their way up to the Football/Basketball committees.

So, retirees with no accountability to any member district stay on/become adjunct members of those lesser committees, and some on the bigger ones too.

As far as Term Limits, it is completely within the power of the High School Principals of the member schools in the WPIAL to make changes.  They have to start by electing WPIAL Board members of their choosing, then work through them to effect whatever changes they see fit.

The Executive Director of the WPIAL works directly for the Board of Directors.
The Board of Directors are elected by the Principals and are to represent their interests.
