I've been going threw some old papers mostly Shamokin and Mount Carmel for the past month and have come up with some interesting numbers, however they are not complete and not sure I could ever make them complete with out going to the library and I'm done doing that. Anyway.

Shamokin has 1545 wins with about 20+ years missing.

Here is somewhat a shocker, Mananoy Area. I had been quoted some crazy numbers from some one in their historical society some years ago but didn't pay much attention until I saw it in print in an old Reading article. First of all they had a coach, Ronald Linkchorst coach for 14 years, compiling a 251-79. Many of you probably know of Mickey Holland, his record was 600-250 in 33 years, here is the shocker. Johnny “Geppy” Geopfert started the basketball fever in the 1920s, and right through until the 1950s at Mahanoy City High School. His record was 803-179 in 33 years ending in the 1952-53 season and starting in 1920. Now that made him the top winner in the state until Loyalsock's Ron Insinger went over that a couple years back. I never saw this anywhere, but as I said I was given that record about 10 years ago over the phone. I never believed it, but going through Shamokin and Mount Carmel papers from 23 to the end of his coaching they did win 20 or more most years.

That means three coaches won 1654 games for them in 80 years. And I know they've played longer than 80 years. Again I doubt I'll ever find the real record.

Old newspapers.com sometime in the last few weeks has just added both the Philadelphia Enquirer and Daily News, so I'm taking a shot at finishing Roman's all-time record but it will be a lot of searching day by day for over 40 years.

I would trust what you have over what I have then.  When I used that signature years ago I used the record you had on an old version of this board.  It is quite possible I messed something up when trying to update with each win and loss.

Ok Kid, I just wasn't sure, I do make mistakes once in awhile. But when I update every year, I rarely do because I try to double check every team. I've been called out with a mistake before and I was wrong, so I thought I'd ask.

Roman Catholic keeps moving up and will continue until I'm finished or until the Lighthouse Classic in Mississippi and The Texas Invitational basketball tournaments start in mid-to late November.

If I can finish, it doesn't look like Roman Catholic will have won 1800 games but it seems they can pass Uniontown yet. It seems like from around 1908 until somewhere in the teens there were only four teams in their league and unless the paper is not publishing all scores they aren't playing many non-league games. They do have a good sports section so I'm not sure why scores are missing if they are.

Hey Jerry,
I don't know if you ever took notice or if I ever told you that Steelton High had 1 tie game back in the 1910-11 season. The game went 4 OTs and ended up 18-18. That was against the State Forestry Academy. Because of travel time both coaches agreed that whichever team scored first in the 4th overtime would be considered the winner. Obviously nobody scored and the game ended after the 4th OT.

Yes I did notice, I've seen several teams with ties every now and then in those games. I guess I omit them because only people like you and me understand why they ended in tie. Not a good answer I know but that's why I haven't included them.

Good enough for me Jerry, and I agree not many people understand the circumstances or even the concept of a tie game in basketball.

2016-2017 Records now added. Williamsport and Roman Catholic both move above Farrell. Still didn't get that Mahoney Area record. When I got a new computer some files were lost, I have to check if I have that one.

I was able to add Mahanoy Area/City, Shamokin and McKeesport to the list this year. I had most of the year-by-year records done before but had never totaled them up before. Still did not do the losses for Mahanoy and Shamokin yet. I had them last year but some years must have been lost in the computer change over.
