Pens up on the Jackets 3-0 after two periods. Pens were outshot 16-3 in the first but outshot the Jackets 16-4 in the second. In bad news Rust took a full on cross check and went limping off to the locker room. Of course no penalty was called

Pens win 3-1. Excellent win and Fleury was outstanding. Pens were manhandled in the first period but they adjusted and took it to the Blue Jackets for the next two periods. Great team win and a great defensive confidence booster for the Penguins

Finishing 4th is looking good so far for the Rangers.

Can't wait to listen to 93.7 tomorrow and see if anyone has the guts to admit how wrong they were on keeping Fleury. Every one on that station thought it was a mistake to keep Fleury. Rutherford looks like an absolute genius now

Absolutely. Some like me are to some extent Fleury apologists (I will admit that he is in my favorite Penguins of all time on a short list with Lemieux/Crosby/Francis/Barrasso/Zubov/Gonchar/Malkin/Rob Brown/Tarnstrom/Kovalev/Nedved, and where he is on this list is not clear or obvious but it would be on the top half of that list if I really thought about it). But with that said the goaltending trading market was really bad at the deadline...it is not as if MAF for Shattenkirk heads up would have been a likely trade, and some like the rumored one to Colorado almost came across as us paying them off with young players to take him, which is unnecessary. He was the Penguins regular season MVP as recently as last season, and he is still in a "goaltender's prime" kind of age, and IMO if he were a starter he would be a good deal financially as well (of course he is way overpaid as a backup, but this happens frequently in all sports, often when a starter loses their job to someone younger, much like the Pens scenario). With all of the said keeping him was a no brainer for me, even with really tempered expectations that he would rarely if ever see the ice in the playoffs. With all of that said I would LOVE to see him lead the Pens to a cup, but I'm still keeping those expectations lower, and my goal is still for the Pens as a team to win the cup, regardless of goalie.

Caps survive being down 2-0 and win 3-2 in OT to take game 1 vs Toronto.

Blackhawks lose 1-0 to Nashville in Game 1.

Anaheim beats Calgary 3-2 to go up 1-0.

Canada 0-5 to start the playoffs. I always have loved the Oilers and am definitely pulling for them, but they did get a brutal draw. In fact all of the Canadian higher seeded teams got brutal draws and may all be the underdogs, with MTL/NYR being probably a coin flip. Of course lower seeded Toronto is huge underdogs in their series. I like them taking the Caps to overtime though. If they win a game and play the rest competitively, definitely can plant a seed of doubt in the minds of the already mentally fragile Caps.

Columbus taking it to the Pens again early. 6 shots to the Pens having none. This is scary
