Title: 2019-20 Bowl Schedule
Post by: Nicky on December 05, 2019, 09:52:27 AM
Well it's that time again. One of the best college football times of the year. Championship weekend this weekend with 11 Conference Championship games on television. Followed by 39 bowl games in the next 4 weeks.

Bowl bids will be going out in the next 3 days.  One Bowl, the Bahamas Bowl, already has its two teams invited and accepted. And more bowls will be following suit in the next couple days.

I'll use this thread to post the official Bowl lineup on Sunday afternoon/evening after the selection show for the playoffs and bowls.

New Years Six major bowls:

Rose: Oregon vs Wisconsin
Sugar: Georgia vs Baylor
Orange: Florida vs Virginia
Cotton: PSU vs Memphis

The committee keeps Virginia at #24 in the Top 25 rankings to insure an Orange Bowl between ranked teams.  At no other time would a team who gives up 62 points remain in the rankings.

Citrus Bowl has more star power than some of the NY6 Bowls.  Iím sure they are thrilled to get Bama vs Michigan.

Those end of the year losses killed Pitt and why they get a MAC team in Detroit.  Hope they donít take the game lightly.

Quick Lane Bowl is just dreadful.  Eastern Michigan was 3-5 in the MAC and finished in dead last in the MAC West.  Couple so positives:  Pitt opens as a double digit favorite and should win big, and it's the only game on during their primetime 8 PM slot, so everyone will see them win.  Good for recruiting and exposure.

Overall, there's a good chance the ACC should have an opportunity to do well in Bowls even though they disappointed during the season.  Four ACC teams play Group of 5 teams in Bowls.

These are the game I hate. Pitt is favored huge so they will probably just squeak out a win if not lose outright

Wonder how Penn State fans view getting the NY6 game against the non Power 5 team?  That has been a tricky spot in years past as the non power team is usually jacked to be in the game while the big time school isnít.  Itís a chance for a school like Memphis to make a name against a team like Penn State.

How could any fan base or alumni base be that upset about your opponent when you're playing in a $6M New Years Six game?  Memphis is good enough to pile up tons of yards and points on PSU.  So on the field, it's not an ideal matchup for PSU, they can easily lose.  But they'll collect NY6 cash, play in a lavish NFL stadium in front of God only knows how many people, and fans will spend the holidays in the big city.  Sign me up!

You would be shocked as I saw SEC fans annoyed their teams got stuck against UCF or whoever last few years.  As you said getting one of those spots is ideal and wouldnít care who the opponent is.

Did anyone else see that controversial call of a non catch that went against Ohio State? Clemson was up 21-16 and a pass was dropped after the receiver took 4 steps. An Ohio State defender scooped it up and went in for the TD but after a very long review it was overturned and called an incomplete pass. He took 4 steps with the ball with a defender on him and was not juggling it. Just couldn't believe they called that a non catch

Agree HS.  That was, to me, such an obvious catch/fumble that I was surprised it was even reviewed.  And then it was somehow overturned.  Every poll I've seen on social media overnight is close to 70% of the public (and a couple high profile review officials who weren't working the game) thinking it was a catch/fumble.

OSU just had too many drops, gaffes, penalties and that call to overcome.  Lots of what-if's they have to live with between now and August.

But all in all, Clemson was favored, and won.  LSU/Clemson was the predicted Championship and we have it.  Now we have to wait 16 days!!

Tough break or not Ohio State's playcalling especially in the 2nd half left a lot to be desired and three times in the first half they had drives stall that resulted in settling for FGs. I realize that no one on here is necessarily blaming the refs but I just want to make clear if anyone did not watch that the Buckeyes lost it in large part to their own doing as well in large part to Clemson's excellence in the 2nd half and not letting the game get out of hand in the first half.

Don't have a dog in the fight.  I thought, live, that's incomplete. TOO fast in hands, out of hands to be a catch/fumble.
Extremely slow motion, I can see several steps but never ball into body, football action.
ESPN rules analyst said same thing.

IF the call stands or is confirmed, I can be okay with that.
IF the call is overturned (which it was), I can be okay with that, too.

As the ESPN rules guy said, sometimes, Slow Motion is good (in-bounds, cross the plane, etc.).  Sometimes, live full-speed is good (football moves, etc.).

It was a great game to watch and enjoy for college football.

First Responder Bowl - WOW!

WMU was just barely in field goal range to win.  Ran a play on 3rd down to set up field position and the QB tripped over himself in the backfield and fumbled.  Lost yards, knocked them out of FG range.  Went for it on 4th down.  Didn't get it.  WKU threw two passes.  Got into range for a hail mary with 3 seconds left.  TWO plays in a row, WMU lines up with 12 guys.  Moves it up 5 yards each time.  WKU kicks 53 yard FG to win.

They were just flat out fun to watch.  Clemson is clearly the second best team in the country and they could do absolutely nothing to even slow down LSU, that's how dominant that offense is.  60 TD passes in a season. WOW.  That's 4 a game and then you factor in that a lot of those games, they were so far ahead, they were just running the ball to kill clock or he probably could have had 10 more.

Looking ahead to next year they have Clemson as the favorite as they return a ton including their star QB and they have too recruiting class.  Also, nobody in the ACC is even close to them right now so they should breeze to another playoff appearance.

Most have North Carolina as favorite in Coastal as they return nearly their entire offense.  Pitt should be in the mix with their returning team as well.

Some years the idea of an 8 or 16 team playoff is a waste of time. Everybody knows LSU is 1, Clemson is 2 and Ohio State is 3. Nothing else this season really matters. The debate would start at 4.

Maybe he can just refuse to play for them and get his agent to work out something. Sit out for a year..I am sure the agent can come up with some money to tide him over till a better team deal is worked out.  Didn't some other QB do that in the past?  :) "Don't draft me cause I will not sign with you".

There are worse places to go.

As backwards as their ownership and management structure is I do believe in their coach Zac Taylor. As underrated and underappreciated as Marvin Lewis was Taylor's performance this year was a reflection of their rebuild and AJ Green missing the entire season more so than a dropoff in coaching ability.

I would rather be a Bengal than a Brown or a Raider or a Jaguar or a Buccaneer or a Giant, etc.

Is it just me or does something need to be done with all these bowl games scattered all over the calendar. It seemed there were bowl games after the big boy bowls.  Everything just seems so watered down and helter-skelter (to borrow a phrase). It seemed impossible to follow along and remember when and who was playing.  There is just so much time from the end of regular season until they play the bowls and end them.  Are these all  TV generated to fill in some holes in the sports channels and holiday programming? Also, it would be nice to give a bit more attention to the championship games for DII and the lesser D i (whatever they call them now). They get lost in that shuffle for "Weed-Wacker Bowls"  It seemed that all the minor bowls led up to the Big New Years Day and National Championship. I guess they did use the four major bowls as some kind of play off..but they need to really refine this more. IMHO
